Jamil Benhamamouch

Born in 1981 in Oran, he joined the theatrical company EL AJOUAD in 2003 and performed in « EL LITHEM, » written by Abdelkader ALLOULA and directed by Kheireddine LARDJAM, where he composed and interpreted the stage music. In the same year, he participated with this play in the Year of Algeria in France. He also participated in a twinning with the company LA MAUVAISE GRAINE under the direction of Arnaud MEUNIER.

IIn 2004, he turned to directing by staging « LA FOLIE DE SALIM » by Abdelkader ALLOULA. He participated with it in the ALMADA festival in Portugal and at the 17th Rencontres du Jeune Théâtre Européen (Grenoble). In 2006, he directed « LE PEUPLE A PRIS CONSCIENCE DU DEVOIR » by Abdelkader ALLOULA, a play that earned him the award for best production at the Amateur Theatre Festival of Mostaganem and the award for best direction at the Theatre Days of Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen.

In 2008, he participated in a workshop on Acting and Directing in ROME with JEAN PAUL DENIZON, assistant to PETER BROOK. In the same year, he directed the play « L’ASTUCE » as part of a twinning between the ISTIJMAM Company and the Mohamed DIB Foundation of Tlemcen.

Then in 2009, he led a seminar on EL HALQA and EL GOUAL (the circle and the storyteller) with actors from the International Academy of the Actor in ROME. He also directed the play « ET’TEFFAH » by Abdelkader ALLOULA with tours in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.

IIn 2010, with the ISTIJMAM Company, he focused on theatrical research and the actor-spectator relationship by organizing theater improvisation workshops. In 2011, he directed the play « QISSAS NESIN, » a free adaptation by Abdelkader ALLOULA based on the stories of AZIZ NESIN.

Between 2013 and 2015, he was a mediator and animator in a Franco-German-Algerian intercultural exchange that led to the creation of a theatrical piece titled « YADRA. » In 2016, he represented Algeria in a cultural exchange program, touring the East Coast of the United States with the play « APPLES » (the American version of ET’TEFFAH). In 2018, he directed El Ajouad in partnership with the Regional Theater of Oran and the Abdelkader ALLOULA Foundation.
In 2024, he directed El Ajouad-Les Généreux by Abdelkader Alloula in a bilingual Arabic-French version, as part of an exchange between the Gena Collective and the ISTIJMAM company.
